The claim that Balochistan in March 1948 was annexed to Pakistan forcibly can be discarded as Khan of Kalat gifted gold to Pakistan as, it is said, he weighted Jinnah with gold. If in 1973, around 15,000 Mari tribesmen were killed, allegedly by army, it was under the governorship of no other than Nawab Akbar Bugti, whose murder during the Musharraf regime has fueled the ongoing violence in the province. The BRA led by Brahamdagh who is said to be in Switzerland, has this murder as the cause of its formation. In 1970 when Attaullah Mengal and Ghaus Bukhsh Bazinjo became Chief Minister and Governor respectively, Nawab Bugti left Pakistan in protest. On his return from London Bugti demanded dismissal of the NAP government in a public gathering at Mochi Derwaza Lahore, but later he took oath as governor of Balochistan. It is undeniable that the people of Balochistan have long been deprived. Only a bunch of people has always been in power and the discontinuation of democratic process has resulted in immaturity at all levels. But this small but powerful group doesn’t belong to masses. Pakistan soon after its creation faced numerous problems. It wasn’t recognized by its neighboring countries which did not wish to see us flourish. It is not only Pakistan where certain ethnicities complain of deprivation, the issue in fact is same to most of the third world countries including the fast growing world economy, India. In order to make the system run smoothly we need to create favorable environment for political and democratic processes. Only then shall we attain the maturity to elect an eligible leadership.
