Points put forward by the Government and Taliban committee

Islamabad: The Government and Taliban Peace Committee put forward their respective points for peace talks in the meeting. During the press conference, Irfan Siddiqui and Maulana Samiul Haq the heads of the respective committees read out a joint statement in which the demands were mentioned. The points that were raised by the Government Committee are: - Talks should be held within the outline of the constitution. - The range of talks will be limited to insurgency affected areas. - Activities which may obstruct the dialogue process should be stopped. - The authority of the Taliban committee and nine-member monitoring committee of the Taliban should be made clear - Duration of dialogue process should not be long. The points put forward by the Taliban committee are - What is the authorization and power of the government committee? - What is the ability of the government's committee to guarantee the demands of Taliban are met? - The Taliban committee has expressed desire to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and DG ISI Zaheerul Islam. Two points were agreed by the committee during the meeting: - There will be no action which would harm the peace process. - Both committees condemned the recent attacks in the country Soon the Taliban committee would leave for Waziristan soon to convey the demands of the Government committee.
