Nabil Ahmad Khan Gabol born 16 November 1962 is a politician from Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Gabol has served as a Minister in the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan, for the portfolio of Ministry of Ports and Shipping, with his most notable contribution being the formal inauguration of the Gwadar Port in December 2008. He is currently serving his third consecutive term as Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Early life and education

Nabil Gabol is the son of Ahmed Khan Gabol, and grandson of Allah Bakhsh Gabol, who was the first Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly and twice mayor of Karachi.

Although the Gabol tribe is very large, Nabil Gabol's immediate family has a separate entity and recognition apart from the tribe, noted as landowners and politicians. He has two other brothers who chose to stay away from politics, and are successful businessmen. Gabol, on the other hand, always enjoyed being with his tribe along with having a strong desire to continue the Gabol political dynasty started by his grandfather in 1927.

Gabol received his early education from St Patrick's High School, Karachi. After continuing his higher studies in Los Angeles, California he returned to Pakistan and completed his degree from Karachi University in 1982.

Political and Tribal life

Nabil Gabol is the Chief Sardar of the Gabol Baloch tribe settled in Karachi, Baran, Jacobabad, Sibi, Dadu, Kashmore, Ghotki, Badin, Alipur, Rajanpur, and many other areas including Gabols in Saudi Arabia.

At the age of 24 he entered politics and became Member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh at the age of 25 in 1988. In 2013 he was elected to Parliament for the sixth time and third consecutive time as Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Aside from being a member of the Provincial and National Assembly of Pakistan several times, Gabol holds the distinction of being the youngest Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly in 1993.

Gabol was part of a special PPP team to provide relief and reconciliation to Balochistan. He played a pivotal role in dissolving the Balochistan political crisis in March 2009. On his official trip to the United States, he was welcomed to the Illinois House of Representatives as a man "noted for his conciliatory approach to regional and organizational conflicts".

In 2011 he resigned from his post as Federal Minister in the Cabinet of Pakistan after some differences arose between him and the President Asif Ali Zardari over target killings in Karachi and a lack of government action towards stopping the atrocities. On 17 March 2013, Gabol left PPP and joined MQM, declaring that PPP is no longer the party of Benazir Bhutto or Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

Personal life

Nabil Gabol enjoys outdoor life, especially in his territory around the Kirthar Mountains. His other hobbies include hunting, collecting guns and world travel. Gabol is also a licensed pilot with a Private Pilot License, and occasionally flies Cessna aircraft for recreation. He has two sons, the eldest being Nadir Khan Gabol, who is currently serving as a Pakistani diplomat in the USA, and Asad Khan Gabol, who is a student at the London School of Economics and Polictical Science (LSE).

We are very proud of Mr Gabol as even though he is facing death threats from he is still speaking the truth and is very brave not even afraid of openly criticizing Zardari or Rehman Malik. my prayers are with you :)

i have felt on number of occasion that nabeel gabol is lying and is misleading the conversation by delivering an answer which isn't the answer to the question which has been asked. I believe that NRO is an open discrimination and robbery on the rights of a human being living in Pakistan as a common pakistani citizen. I don't understand why are they discussing NRO at first place, something which shouldn't exist in Pakistan and democracy at all. PPP has her last chance and the circumstances reveal that Govt and her departments have failed due to their utter nonsenese acts.

THE GREAT LEADER !!!!!!

It’s funny that a politician is judged based on the number of votes he received and how many times he/she has been elected to the state or national assembly. I mean a PPP Jiala not matter how qualified he is will win in Liyari and no matter how dumb a MQM activist is, he’ll always win in Liaqtabad. People of Pakistan are not SMART at all. They support the party not the qualifications and merit of the person. I mean our current president has spent quite some time in jail because of corruption but guess what—he’s the president now. Our another leader, Mr. Sharif is well known to be a corrupt and Punjabi biased politician but he sill has the command of many voters. And Mr. Altaf Hussain has been living in London for almost two decades and still the beloved leader of Karachi voters. Mr. Z Bhutto was a great leader but it was him who broke Pakistan into two pieces and we ended up losing East Pakistan. Mr. Nabeen Gobol is going to resign from state ministry because he can’t recruit PPP workers in government jobs—hello buddy, shouldn’t you recruit people based on their merit…not based on their loyalty to the party. GOD BLESS Pakistan….people of Pakistan have only damaged this country.

It doesn't matter what all these people from UK and USA comment below about Sardar, his people and his voters love him! He got 96% of all votes in the last elections and that's what matters!

Most of the people commenting in this page don't represent 1% of Pakistan and they are talking as if they know all about gabol. I know gabol and i watch him on TV sitting away from Pakistan and he is a very brave politician and very straightforward. if he supporting zardari its not coz he like him its coz like a good cricketer he is a team man and he is loyal to his captain and whether zardari is corrupt or not is another argument. and if 20 people write things against gabol on this page then he also has 96000 voters who support him.

Musa Ahmed ( Islamabad,Pakistan) Friday, March 06, 2009 7:54:01 AM (MDT - USA)
WoW! Gabol was the first Minister to speak up against Indian involvement in the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team! He is a very brave politician, Reuters BBC New York Times and all national newspapers around the world have highlighted him for this! an today it is confirmed that the militants crossed the border form India and had Indian weapons !

Umar Baloch ( Karachi,Pakistan) Friday, March 06, 2009 7:47:58 AM (MDT - USA)
I see many hateful comments about Nabil Gabol on this page, the truth of the matter is that you guys don't matter, there are about 10 or 15 comments against him, but did you know that he got NINETY SIX THOUSAND votes in his constituency, and even MQM was no where near MQM got only Four Thousand votes, you can do the math yourself! All those people visiting this website aren't the true judge or representatives of Pakistan, they're slightly educated smart ale's who think they know everything about everyone. In the end I would like to say that Nabil Gabol is a very brave man, the way he tackles all the gangsters of Lyari as well as the establishment is very difficult for any one else, you need to have the guts to do politics in Lyari and Nabil Gabol has it as he is a true baloch leader.

Jahanzaib Khan ( Baltimore,United States) Thursday, March 05, 2009 2:17:47 PM (MDT - USA)
Three reasons why I respect Mr Gabol: 1) He is not a "*****" or opportunist 2) He is loyal 3) He is bold and straightforward

Mr Gabol is one of the most popular figures from Pakistan in our circle. I've seen him many times, he is a bold man with great respect for others. A very pleasant face indeed.
