Afrasiab Khattak or Afrasayab Khattak is a politician from Kohat, Pukhtoonkhwa, Pakistan. He is currently provincial president of the Awami National Party in North-West Frontier Province.

Afrasiab Khattak is a former student leader, Pakistani politician, writer and prominent human rights activist. He has been the president of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

Afrasiab Khattak is from Kohat in southern North-West Frontier Province. He was an active leftist politician during the 1970s and 1980s. He spent many years in self-exile in Afghanistan in the 1980s, due to his strong opposition to General Zia-ul-Haq's military rule.

After his return from Afghanistan, Khattak contested the general elections from Karak but lost to Aslam Khattak. Afrasiab Khattak joined the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) in 1989, and served as the Vice Chairman of HRCP in Frontier Province, for three years - he is also one of the founders of the Afghanistan Pakistan People's Friendship Association. In April 1999, he was threatened by extremist factions for demonstrating against "honor" killing in Peshawar. On May 2, 1999, he was unanimously elected Chairperson of HRCP for a three-year-term. Re-elected in 2002, he resigned from the post after he rejoined the Awami National Party. He is also a known constitutional expert and a practicing lawyer of Supreme Court and High court.

He was elected in 2006 as the provincial president of the Awami National Party, leading the party to provincial victory in Pakistan's elections of 2008 and became the Peace Ambassador to Govt. of NWFP. He played a vital role in peace process between Taliban and Govt. of NWFP but all his efforts were sabotaged in typical Pakistani Politics.

RAW agent! He is working to destabilize Pakistan and sever the NWFP from the rest of the Country.

He is a disgrace to Pukhtuns and Pakistan. I have spoken to numerous people who have heard him acknowledge that it was the ANP who assassinated Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao. In fact he had the nerve to say that Hayat Sherpao was supposed to have been killed days before at another occasion but they refrained because he was also at the place and they did not want to harm him. This is honestly shamelfull. Hayat Sherpao was probably the the most sincere and talented leader the NWFP has produced and people like Afrasiab Khattak take pride in having taken part in killing him. How on earth are we turning a blind eye to disgraceful people like him.

Arasiab khattak was a student leader of pukhtoon staudents fedration in 1972 when i was in school and had the oppurtunity to lesson to him and later on being a student in Islamia college i had more interaction with him.He was the most popular leader of pukhtoon students fedration and pehawar university.Although he lost election of the first pehawar university union because of the interferrence of central government through governor and provincial ministers.I had the oppurtunity to spend almost a week at our hujra when he was underground and stayed with us.He is a very intelligiant person,a good orator, with a lot of knowelege and a very good poet and writer. We pukhtoons had a lot of expectation from him when he rejoined ANP and he did well as expected from him.We pukhtoons hope he continue serving the poor pukhtoons and fight for thier rights,we pray for his safety.

i wonder how ppl like aurangzeb khan teach us lessons about Pakistaniat...???and how illogically he just blame person rys like afrasaiab khattak....i will try to answer his questions. 1.he accused him of doing linguist politics...to correct you its called nationalist politics and there is no such term as linguist politics in political science. 2.A person who does not love and protect the land where he was born he is the most coward person on the face of earth.now if somebody is doing something for his birth land then let him do it,because Pakistan came into being in 1947 and oushtun khwa was there since thousands of years. 3.Pakistan is a federation, and if u have a slightest knowledge of political science you would surely know that what federation means.federation is a country where every state has right to run their own affairs according to their socio-cultural demands.and afrasaiab always advocated the establishment of a true federation, which is Pakistan is not. hope these comments will not make u offend rather make u understand the real situation. thank you

If it is true that he is hard line separatist. I would say, we need couple more like him because only then can we, pashtuns, achieve our goals.

aurangzeb khan ( peshawar,Pakistan) Sunday, February 15, 2009 8:39:11 AM (MDT - USA)
This is another hard liner separatist from ANP. This guy was imprisoned during ANP and GUI government of Moulana Mufti Mahmood in 1971. He is an agent of USSR and is only aim is to separate NWFP from Pakistan. Is any one heard him of any loving words for Pakistan? He left ANP in 1971 for his very hard line on secularist views. He has only one agenda to play politics of linguistic views. All the ill situation in NWFP is due to these separatists. These Taliban were part of ANP hard line group. What was their role when USSR invaded Afghanistan? go back and read the history about ANP role. These ANP were expecting USSR to roll their tanks to pass khyber pass and capture NWFP and make NWFP as part of Afghanistan. People of Pakistan should be aware of their intention.
