Pakistan’s favourite all rounder and star cricketer Shahid Afridi has joined hands with provincial government’s Tameer-e-School Programme in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in efforts to stump illiteracy down. Afridi termed illiteracy the country’s biggest problem and announced his complete support to promote education in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) by putting his share in the Tameer-e-School Programme.

The Tameer-e-School Programme as a constructive initiative by the provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) aims to curtail the effects of illiteracy by promoting education for all. The programme in its efforts to provide better school and education facilities features a whole renovation programme of schools to improve the infrastructure of schools. The programme targets public schools across the province and for its renovation purposes and in order to provide them with adequate facilities. The programme for its logistical needs aspires funding from private donors, both domestic and foreign.

In order to facilitate the programme and stand behind the cause, Shahid Afridi, the star cricketer has shown great interest in the initiative and has termed the programme “a positive initiative of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to overcome illiteracy in the province”. He has not only shown interest but has promised to give his full support and backing for the education cause in the province. He said that he is always ready to contribute to positive initiatives in every sector across the country.

“Education is a must. Children without education can be shaped however one wants, but once you educate children, they will be able to differentiate between good and bad,” Afridi said. Afridi also mentioned that he has also been working on healthcare projects in the tribal areas and he hopes that the education project would be extended to the tribal belt as well.

When asked the question as if he has tried contacting other international cricketers to contribute to PTI’s initiative for education programme in KPK, Afridi said, “Almost every cricketer has been contributing in various projects in their respective countries. We have enough people in our own country to support this cause.”

“(PTI Chairman) Imran Khan has been doing an amazing job in promoting education. I am always available to help out and my services are not limited to PTI but to everyone having a workable idea of developing any poor sector of the country,” Afridi added.

Afrid’s support to the programme has further highlighted the efforts and initiatives taken by PTI in the KPK province for the betterment and harnessing of resources in order to improve the literacy rate in the province and to provide better education facilities to all, under government capacity.
