Details of Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf

General (ret) Pervez Musharraf is the former President of Pakistan. Previously, he was Prime Minister of Pakistan as well as former Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army. On 18 August 2008, in a nationally-televised speech, he announced his resignation as president of Pakistan.

He seized power in 1999 by effecting a military coup d''état and has suspended the constitution of Pakistan twice since then. After Musharraf announced his intention to combat extremists, Western countries (including the United States and the United Kingdom) switched from a policy of sanctions to active support through military and monetary aid. He took power on 12 October 1999, ousting Nawaz Sharif, the elected Prime Minister, dismissed the national and provincial legislative assemblies, assumed the title of Chief Executive and became Pakistan''s de facto head of government, thereby becoming the fourth Army chief of Pakistan to have assumed executive control. Later in 2001, Musharraf appointed himself to the office of President of Pakistan.

On 3 November 2007, only days before a bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan was to decide on a petition challenging the constitutional validity of his re-election as president in the controversial October 2007 elections, he, as Chief of Army Staff, suspended the constitution, jailed several justices and lawyers of the supreme court including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, ordered the arrest of political dissidents and human rights activists, and shut down all private television channels. On 3 November 2007, Musharraf declared a state of emergency in Pakistan which lasted until 15 December 2007. During this time, the constitution of the country was suspended.

On 24 November 2007, the Pakistan Election Commission confirmed his re-election as President.

On 18 August 2008, Pervez Musharraf resigned from the post of President of Pakistan under impeachment pressure from the coalition government. Consequently, his website was removed since he was no longer the President of Pakistan. Musharraf was succeeded on 6 September 2008, by Asif Ali Zardari, duly elected as Pakistan''s 11th President since 1956.

I am neither supporter nor opponent of Mushrraf, but I would like to compare him with current politicians and can count few wrongdoings as compare to politician but he must face it, as well as all politicians; i.e. His support to US as Front state in War on Terror Lal Mosque assault Judiciary Handling Etc, He has done some good things as well i.e. Nazim System-downsizing the power to local city/town level Less corruption Jobs on Merit Less Inflation Cheap Atta etc Today Pakistan is cursed with the Zardari & Company and I would like to call on all Pakistanis to think neutrally analyse, compare and check the current politicians in particular PPP which is Nuwazing only his own party workers and making us enslaved to IMF and WORLD BANK by taking enamours loans and mismanaging everything where that money is going? Some of their wrongdoings are as follow; Massive Corruption No Electricity No Merit- Only merit is reference and PPP party link Nawazing party workers and collation partners though non refundable loans, plots gifts, contract gifts and many more channels The fuel price is almost same today despite it has come down in international market from $147 to $ 60, so where that money is going? High Inflation Etc The only glimmer of hope I can see is either Imran Khan or somebody new from some poor/middle class background otherwise these 22 families (now 122 plus) would keep ruling us sine 1947 to now . 6
