Youths to be given opportunities for healthy activities: CM

QUETTA: Various sporting events continued at the Nawab Akbar Bugti Cricket Ground here on Wednesday as part of the Third Balochistan Sports Festival inaugurated a day earlier by Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai.

A musical programme was also held, which featured prominent film and TV artistes.

Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Commandant of Southern Command Lt Gen Aamir Riaz, Sports Minister Mujeebur Rehman Muhammad Hasni, Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattah, Rangers DG (Sindh) Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, provincial ministers and several other senior civil and military officers, as well as a large number of people, were present on the occasion.

The festival will continue till March 29 and around 2,700 men and women will participate in various games across the province during the week.

Traditional dance routines of the four provinces featured at the opening ceremony, while army personnel demonstrated a drill in which people showed particular interest.

The chief minister vowed in his address at the ceremony not to allow the proliferation of negative activities, drug addiction and terrorism in the province by setting up sports grounds.

“We will provide our youth the opportunity to participate in constructive activities to promote their talents so that they can play a role in the prosperity and development of the nation through positive thinking,” he said.

The governor and Lt Gen Riaz also spoke at the ceremony. The chief minister announced a grant of Rs50 million for renovation of the Ayub Stadium.
