PM, Imran Khan issued notices over ‘offshore assets’

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan and others while hearing identical petitions seeking disqualification of the PM and PTI chairman for alleged offshore companies, Samaa reported.

The application seeking Khan’s disqualification was filed to the ECP by MNA Shahnawaz Dhalon. Another similar reference was forwarded to the commission by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Several petitions were filed in the commission seeking disqualification of PM Sharif over alleged offshore companies of his family revealed in the Panama Leaks papers.

The commission took all identical petitions today and issued notices to PM, Imran Khan and others directing them to file response by Sept. 28.

On a reference seeking senior PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen’s disqualification, the commission also issued notice to him to file response before next hearing.

However, ANP’s application seeking issuance of notices to MPAs Muhammad Ali and Shahram Tarakai was rejected.

In today’s hearing, Captain (retd) Safdar, the son-in-law of Prime Minister Nawaz, filed his statement, raising objections over ECP’s authority to hear the issue of offshore holdings. -
