ISLAMABAD: A senior-yet-disgruntled leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Zafar Ali Shah, is expected to make an announcement of parting ways with the party and joining Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Shah has been associated with the PML-N for many years, but he entered a collision course with the party during the local bodies’ election held in November 2015 in Islamabad as Mr Shah wanted to become mayor of Islamabad and contested election from a Union Council, but an independent candidate won the seat after support of some PML-N leaders.

In an interview, Shah said disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif proved that he was not honest and sagacious.

The reports quoted him as saying: “I am a politician and have to do politics. My friends suggested me to join PTI and I agreed.”

He termed the PML-N intra-party elections as bogus that made Shahbaz Sharif the party head.

“Though I am contesting from NA-53, I have decided to withdraw in favour of Imran Khan and will play my role to get maximum votes for him,” he said.
