KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday approved resignation of Mohammed Zubair Umar as governor Sindh. Former speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani has become caretaker governor of the province, ARY News reported.

Muhammad Zubair on July 28 stepped down from his position and sent his resignation to the president.

“I have performed my duty under the constitution,” he said.

This development came a day after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is poised to form a government at the centre after wining the 2018 elections, decided to change the governors in three provinces, including Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Paklhtunkhwa.

After resignation of the governor Sindh is approved, speaker Sindh Assembly, as per law, automatically becomes the governor, ARY News Correspondent Arbab Chandio reported.

Zubair was 32nd governor of the province. He took oath for the governorship on February 1, 2017, after death of former governor Sindh Justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui. He has served on this post for around one and a half year. Earlier, he served on the post of chairman Privatisation Commission.
