Islamabad- Senior lawyers have said, they extend full support to military operation against the terrorists, but they are opposed to formation of military courts.

Talking to journalists today, leading lawyers including Asma Jahangir, Hamid Khan, Taufiq Asif, Ikram Chaudhry and others said, all the amendments made in constitution during military regimes have left the basic structure of the constitution in ruins. “We are opposed to interference of military in the powers of democratic institutions. However we fully support military operation against the terrorists. The interference from military is continuing in the affairs of different institutions since several months and we want to stop it, they announced. “We want military should not be politics stricken”, they added.

Asma Jahangir said “we are against the terrorism and we extend full support to Pakistan army in operation against the terrorists. We think that basic structure of the constitution does not exist. The basic structure of the constitution will be talked of in the court. The matter will also come under arguments; it is the 21st constitutional amendment in derogation of fundamental rights. We fully support the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists and we want to see army with high morale. Army jawans are rendering sacrifices of their lives for the sake of nation. We salute their sacrifices. We want the other institutions work within their constitutional parameters.”

She held “we want to convince parliament that government has been elected with the power of ballots. Therefore, it should show some courage.”
