CM Sharif orders inquiry into factory collapse

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the incident of factory building collapse at Sundar Industrial Estate.

Talking to mediamen during his visit to site of the incident here Wednesday, he said that strict action would be taken against Sundar Industrial Estate administration if any negligence was found in the inquiry.

He said that the cause of building collapse could be determined after the report of the inquiry.

The chief minister said that best medical facilities were being provided to the injured and emergency has been declared in all the city hospitals.

He said that Pak Army, Rescue 1122 and the city district government were putting all-out efforts to retrieve the injured trapped under debris.

To a question, Shahbaz said that he had ordered to initiate a survey to analysis condition of buildings after the earthquake.

The misery of the factory’s hapless workers brought Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq to the cave-in site.

The JI Ameer said, “The building of the factory was already lying in tatters at the hand of the recent damaging earthquake. Following the tremor, the owners should have taken up security measures.”
