LAHORE: Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and veteran batsman Younis Khan have been appointed as advisers to the chairman on cricket affairs, and not as members of the Board of Governors, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified on Wednesday.

As advisers the duo may be invited to attend the BoG meetings, as the Board will not have any cricketer as full members.

“It was decided at [Tuesday’s] BoG meeting that Pakistan Test captain Mr Misbah-ul-Haq and middle-order batsman Mr Younis Khan will serve as advisers to PCB chairman on cricket affairs. As and when required, the two advisers may also be invited to BoG meetings in order to solicit their expert opinion,” a PCB press statement stated.

It may be mentioned here that after presiding over the BoG meeting on Tuesday, PCB chairman Shaharyar M. Khan had said that both Misbah and Younis had been inducted into the BoG as members.

Sources said some members of the BoG also recommended the name of former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim, who recently quit the PCB as BoG member because of his retirement from his parent body — National Bank of Pakistan. However, it was decided that cricketers of present era should be given preference.

A minor amendment to the PCB constitution is required to expand the strength of BoG, which is currently 12. Among them four each should be from regional cricket bodies and departments, while two are to be appointed by the prime minister as patron-in-chief as no seat is reserved for a cricketer against the past practice when two Test cricketers were mandatory to sit.
