Professor Yasinzai was born in 1958. He had his primaryeducation from Kuchlak a suburb ofQuetta located only a few kilometres to the northwest of Quetta. He has M.Sc inBio-Organic Chemistry and a B.S in Biology and Chemistry. His research andacademic activities date back to 1980 when he started teaching at theUniversity of Balochistan. In 1983 Professor Yasinzai received his Ph. D fromthe University of Hull UK and later on his Post-Doctorate from Perugia MedicalSchool, Italy.
He is the first academician from Balochistan who has everbeen privileged to run the office of the Vice Chancellor of the prestigiousQuaid-i-Azam International University Islamabad. His nomination is therefore agreat honour for our region. No doubt the appointment that was considered andrecommended by the 'search committee' of the Higher Education Commission (HEC)will definitely boost the morale and confidence of the academia fromBalochistan province ï¿½ a province which still lags behind in many ways andwhere people at large feel neglected.
Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, a meritorious professor ofbiochemistry, is one of the leading scientists and educationists of Pakistan.He is the author of close to 100 research publications in top internationalscience journals and has also contributed chapters in internationalpublications, including encyclopaedias. Based on ranking of the Council forScience and Technology, Ministry of S & T, he is graded over the past fewyears as the productive scientist in Pakistan.
He spent 30 years at the University of Balochistan as aprofessor, dean and vice chancellor and played a key role in the establishmentof science & scientific activities in that province. His research work overyears has resulted in a number of scientific discoveries, the recent one beingthe development of a new chemotherapeutic agent against Leishmaniasis, aparasitic disease highly endemic in Pakistan.
