ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reportedly finalised Atif Khan as the next chief minister of the province, ARY News reported.

The party held several consultative meetings which reportedly finalised Atif Khan’s name for the coveted post. The decision is expected to announced within the next 48 hours.

Former chief minister Pervez Khattak is unlikely to receive a second stint. Khattak won the national assembly seat NA-25 Nowshera which the party wants to retain. Former KP Speaker Asad Kaisar, Shaukat Yusufzai and Shah Farman were also considered for the post.

Atif Khan, who served as the minister of education, secured his PK-50 seat comfortably but was defeated on the NA-21 seat, and consequently would be a part of the provincial assembly.

Khattak, on the other hand, is been considered for the next interior minister. PTI’s Senator Chaudhry Sarwar and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed have also expressed desire for the post.

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) leader and former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi is expected to be the next speaker of Punjab Assembly.

PTI leader Aleem Khan is inching closer to be the next chief minister of Punjab. However, Yasmeen Rashid is also likely to receive the post as Aleem Khan is embroiled in investigations by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
